Business and Economics Education at the State University of Tetovo, Macedonia, 2005 - 2007
Wider Objectives
The wider objectives of this project were:
(i) to develop the human and material capacities of the State University of Tetovo to enable it to respond to the growing needs of the labour market for business and economics specialists; and (ii) to contribute to the reform of higher education and the implementation of the Bologna system at the University.
Specific Project Objectives
The specific objectives of the project were: (i) to revise and update the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in economics and business at the State University of Tetovo (SUT) in line with the Bologna model; (ii) to provide staff with the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge, prepare syllabuses for the new study programmes and teach the new subjects.
Methodology for Achieving Project Objectives
In order to achieve the project objectives, the experience of EU institutions was applied to revising the existing study programmes in Tetovo and develop the outline structure of new 3-year Bachelors and 2-year Masters programmes. Following the agreement on the outline structure, the syllabuses and teaching material for the components of the new study programmes were prepared.
For this purpose, it was necessary to provide updating and retraining opportunities in EU partner universities for the teaching staff from Tetovo, where they could work with EU colleagues, study the teaching material at EU institutions and observe the teaching-learning-assessment strategies of these institutions.
It was also essential to train some of the younger members of staff (assistants) in EU universities and allow them to obtain a full Masters level education.
Finally, in order to complement staff updating measures and the new curricula and syllabuses, the relevant books, journals and teaching support equipment were supplied to the partner institution in Macedonia.
